THE 2001 ECLIPSE AWARDS

Point Given
has been named North America’s “Horse of the Year” for 2001. The six time grade 1 winner outdid dual Breeders Cup Classic winner, Tiznow, and the brilliant two year old Johannesburg. The latter pair were voted champion older male and champion two year old colt respectively.

Point Given was also the unanimous Eclipse three year old male. The son of Thunder Gulch is now standing at stud at Three Chimneys Farm for a $125,000 fee. Tiznow is also retired, to Winstar Farm for a stud fee of $30,000. Fantastic Light and Gourmet Girl have also been retired to the breeding shed. Sadly Pompeyo is dead and received the Eclipse Steeplechaser award posthumously. A noticeable feature is, as usual, how the Breeders Cup races determine the awards. Three Eclipse Award winners, Johannesburg, Banks Hill and Fantastic Light, only won one race in the USA.
