An outstanding entry of 27 top-class fillies has been received
for the R250 000, Grade 1 Garden Province Stakes to be run over
1 600 metres at Greyville Racecourse on Vodacom Durban July Day.
The race is for fillies and mares at weight-for-age and the entries
include Geoff Woodruff’s superb filly, Promisefrommyheart, who is
bidding for her third Graded victory in a row having already won
the South African Fillies Guineas and the Woolavington Stakes.
Also among the entries is the Paddock Stakes and South African Fillies
Classic winner, Angelina, from the powerful yard of Mike de Kock,
and Ormond Ferraris’s South African Fillies Sprint winner, Overarching.
Alistair Gordon’s top Houston Connection filly, Texan Summer, along
with Gary Alexander’s talented filly Icy Air are also among the
nominations.
Back-up for Woodruff’s Vodacom Durban July candidate, Promisefrommyheart,
will be the Argentinean-bred filly, Lady Caroloty, as well as Dunmore
West, Duchess Daba and Bushra while de Kock has also entered his
Brazilian-bred filly, Ilha Da Vitoria.
The Garden Province Stakes has been run since 1963 as a major feature
in the KwaZulu-Natal Winter season and the many outstanding fillies
that have won it include the great Spook Express.
