An outstanding entry of 27 top-class fillies has been received for the R250 000, Grade 1 Garden Province Stakes to be run over 1 600 metres at Greyville Racecourse on Vodacom Durban July Day.

The race is for fillies and mares at weight-for-age and the entries include Geoff Woodruff’s superb filly, Promisefrommyheart, who is bidding for her third Graded victory in a row having already won the South African Fillies Guineas and the Woolavington Stakes.

Also among the entries is the Paddock Stakes and South African Fillies Classic winner, Angelina, from the powerful yard of Mike de Kock, and Ormond Ferraris’s South African Fillies Sprint winner, Overarching.

Alistair Gordon’s top Houston Connection filly, Texan Summer, along with Gary Alexander’s talented filly Icy Air are also among the nominations.

Back-up for Woodruff’s Vodacom Durban July candidate, Promisefrommyheart, will be the Argentinean-bred filly, Lady Caroloty, as well as Dunmore West, Duchess Daba and Bushra while de Kock has also entered his Brazilian-bred filly, Ilha Da Vitoria.

The Garden Province Stakes has been run since 1963 as a major feature in the KwaZulu-Natal Winter season and the many outstanding fillies that have won it include the great Spook Express.
