The first four fillies past the post in Saturday’s thrilling
Durban Africa Golden Slipper over 1400 metres at Greyville Racecourse
are among the 33 entries for the R350 000 Grade 1 Thekwini Fillies
Stakes to be run over 1 600 metres on All Stars Day at Clairwood
Racecourse in Durban on Saturday, July 30.
The battle for honours in Saturday’s juvenile clash was thrilling
and, with the entry of a number of other talented fillies who
are better suited to the mile and who were not in Saturday’s
race, this race could provide one of the highlights of the racemeeting.
Glen Kotzen has brought a small but very competitive team of
horses up from the Cape for the Winter Season and his two fillies
on Saturday, Alexandra Rose and Veiled Essence, were extremely
impressive in the strong finishes they produced to take the
first two places.
KwaZulu-Natal’s Pat Lunn, well known for his ability to prepare
fillies for big races, has entered his Kahal filly, Bold Ellinore,
who finished third in Saturday’s race just ahead of Charles
Laird’s Rambo’s Love.
For many of the fillies who ran on Saturday, the extra distance
of the Thekwini Fillies Stakes will be more to their liking.
Together with the entry of other fillies who would find the
mile a better proposition, the final field for this juvenile
clash is expected to be very strong and competitive.
