CLASS ENTRY FOR THE PREMIER'S CHAMPIONS STAKES

5 July 2005

The 20-1 chance Chardin, who was just beaten a short head by Ndabeni in the R500 000 Golden Horseshoe at Greyville on Saturday, as well as the two colts who followed him home in third and fourth places, are among the 30 entries for the R500 000 Grade 1 Premier’s Champion Stakes over 1 600 metres at Clairwood Racecourse on All Stars Day - July 30.

Colin Lee’s Dominion Royale colt fought it out with Charles Laird’s Ndabeni with the latter just getting the decision by the narrowest margin.

They could well do battle again with Weiho Marwing’s Western Winter colt, Ski Pass, who was all the rage at Greyville on Saturday but failed to make the frame. The minor placings on Saturday went to First Flag and Tiza.

Also among the nominations for the final leg of the country’s Juvenile Championship are Dennis Drier’s Parnassus and Vaughan Marshall’s National Captain who fought a close finish in one of the early races on Vodacom Durban July, the Mercury Juvenile Plate over 1 900 metres, where Parnassus gained the upper hand by a head.

Trainer Barend Botes, whose Rambo Dancer filly, King’s Dancer, was favourite for the Durban African Golden Slipper on Saturday, has entered her against the colts in this race hoping for a better performance than she produced on Saturday.
