CARLA TOPS SESSION

Lady Carla, brilliant Epsom Oaks winner and dam of new South African sire Indigo Magic, topped the Wednesday session of Tattersalls December Mare Sale. The ten year old daughter of Caerleon was purchased by Timmy Hyde and Paul Shanahan for 1,050,000 guineas. She was sold as part of owner Wafic Said’s dispersal. Her daughter, a full sister to Indigo Magic, sold for 180 000 guineas. 

Lady Carla, in foal to English 2000 Guineas winner Mark Of Esteem, won the 1996 Epsom Oaks by nine lengths. Unbeaten in her first three starts, Lady Carla was fourth as favourite in the Irish Oaks. She was unplaced in her two starts at four. Trained by Henry Cecil, her Kingmambo colt fetched a million guineas at the Houghton Yearling Sale this year. 

Tuesday saw  Ramruma top the Mare Sale when she was sold to John Magnier for 2, 100,000 guineas.The daughter of Diesis is in foal to Machiavellian. Ramruma won all of the Epsom, Irish and Yorkshire Oaks as well as running second in the St Leger. She will go to Sadler’s Wells next year.
