DANZIG DOMINATES
2 October 2006

Not for the first time recently descendants of Danzig ran riot over the weekend. His great grandson Rail Link won the Arc, whilst the likes of Mandesha, Caradak, Desert Lord and Holy Roman Emperor all won Gp1 races at the Arc meeting.

Danzig, who was in the news earlier as the sire of a $9.2 million yearling at Keeneland, died earlier this year. He is damsire of leading sires Arch and Distorted Humor, who is the sire of Saturday's Gr2 Hawthorne Gold Cup winner It's No Joke. Danzig's grandson, Dansili, not only is the sire of Rail Link but the exciting Thousand Words, who won the Somerville Tattersalls Stakes (Gp3) in facile fashion on Friday. Danzig male line descendants were 1-2-3 in that race. Second place finisher Dijeer is an own brother to the $9.2 million yearling.

Danzig descedants ran 2-3 in the Middle Park Stakes and Danetime filly Dhanyata ran second in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Promising young Danzig horse Iron Mask was represented by his first Gp winner when Iron Lips landed the five furlong Prix Eclipse.

Widely regarded as the most influential of all of Northern Dancer's sons, Danzig's legacy extends far beyond being the sire of Danehill.
