Diesis, former champion two-year-old, was euthanased on Saturday after he broke a hip.
He was 26 and earlier this year been retired from stud duty due to failing fertility.
Trained by Henry Cecil, for Lord Howard de Walden, like his brother Kris, Diesis was an outstanding two-year-old, winning both the Dewhurst Stakes (Gp1) and Middle Park Stakes (Gp1). In winning the latter he emulated his sire, Sharpen Up, who won the race in 1971.
Diesis failed to train on and was retired to stud.
The sire of over 80 stakes winners, Diesis was a top-class stallion, whose record, in all probability, would have been ever better had he stood in Europe. His stock thrived on the European turf and included three Epsom Oaks winners in Ramruma, Diminunedo and Love Divine. The latter is the dam of this year's St Leger winner, Sixties Icon. Another Diesis filly, Pricket, was second in the Oaks.
Diesis also sired Abbaye winner Keen Hunter, Eclipse winner Elmaamul, Hollywood Turf Cup winner Continuously, Gr1 winner Magistretti and champion Halling.
Both Halling and Elmaamul achieved success at stud although the latter died earlier this year. Elmaamul himself is the sire of successful young sire Muhtathir.
Diesis was also an outstanding broodmare sire, and is the damsire of the likes of Queen's Logic, Dylan Thomas, Crimplene, Carmine Lake, Hayil and Zanzibar.
