Crimson Palace made an impressive debut in Dubai last night. The daughter of Elliodor won by four and three quarter lengths from the multiple Group Three winner Gateman. The latter, successful in last year’s Diomed Stakes before running a solid fourth in the Queen Anne Stakes, was well beaten in the 1777 meter race.

The four year old filly smashed the course record, set by Ipi Tombe. The record stood at 1:47:61 and Crimson Palace lowered it to 1:47:48.

Crimson Palace successful in last year’s Paddock Stakes was ridden by Weichong Mawing for Mike de Kock. Out of the Group One placed Perfect Guest, she has won five of seven starts.

She gave de Kock a double, following the win of Prince of War in the third race.

Victory Moon was a desperately unlikely loser of the feature race on the card, the first round of the Maktoum Challenge. The colt found considerable trouble in the straight before flying up to finish third to high class performer State Shinto.
