One of South Africa’s latest sire imports, Woodborough, was represented by Egyptian Ra narrow second in the Group One ARC Sires Produce Stakes in New Zealand where he previously stood.

The two year old gelding was beaten under a length in the six furlong event by Daggers Drawn (a close relative of another SA sire Count Dubois) filly Iflooxcouldkill. The chestnut defeated previous stakes winners Velasco, Keeninsky, Alinsky and Kapsdan.

Egyptian Ra has yet to win in four starts but has been placed second three times and third once.

Woodborough, a former leading first season sire in the land of Middle earth, was a high class two year old himself-like his sire Woodman. Winner of the Group Three Anglesey Stakes, he was second in both the Phoenix Stakes and Middle Park Stakes.

Woodborough is out of the high class mare Performing Arts and stands for R10000.
