Dual Melbourne Cup winner, Makybe Diva, was recently named Australia's Horse of the Year.
The daughter of Desert King, who is being aimed at a three-peat in the Melbourne Cup, got the nod over globe trotter Elvstroem and the prolific Grand Armee.
She won three group one's in the last Australian season, and although she was unplaced in her two Japanese starts, she retained her considerable popularity down under.

Elvstroem was named champion international performer, an award well deserved. The son of Danehill was ultra consistent and won the Dubai Duty Free (Gp1) and was second in the Prix D'Isaphan (Gp1) to the top class performer Valixir.

Redoute's Choice filly Fashions Afield was the most consistent two year old and she was named champion two year old ahead of Stratum and Darci Brahma.
Alinghi was champion filly and she is an interesting filly to follow in the U.S.
Described with superlatives by connections, Alinghi's finest hour came with a length defeat of top class colt, Fastnet Rock in the Newmarket Handicap (Gp1). Fastnet Rock, now retired to Coolmore for an exorbitant stud fee, was named champion three year old colt and sprinter.

Grand Armee was slightly unlucky not to win Horse of the Year as he won no less than five group one's last season. The gelded son of Hennessy was, however, named champion middle distance male.

Danehill won his ninth sires championship. His last crop are two-year-olds.
