NATIONAL MEDIA TIPSTER
 COMPETITION

(Media Release)
15 December 2003

The National Media Tipster competition run by Gold Circle and Phumelela is proving a little more difficult than was first envisaged and even the log leader, Etienne Louw of the Beeld, has failed to score any points in 12 of the 24 graded races run in the country so far this season.

The competition is for print publications that publish tips for graded races throughout South Africa and Gold Circle and Phumelela are offering prizes totaling R100 000 for the three tipsters logging the most points during the 2003/2004 racing season. R60 000 will go to the winner, R30 000 to second and R10 000 to the tipster accumulating the third highest points.

The competition is run only on Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 races and does not consider the success of tipsters on all other races during the season.

The Daily News was a strong leader early in the competition but Etienne Louw of Beeld has surged ahead to lead the log with 65 points – 11 points clear of the Phumelela Tipsters who are in second position.
