Giant’s Causeway won many fans by his battling qualities. Now his first foals are also winning support. The six time Group 1 winning son of Storm Cat had a good session at Keeneland but he surpassed it on Friday.

His daughter out of Arc winner Urban Sea fetched a new record for a filly foal when selling for 1.8 million guineas at Tattersalls November Foal Sale.

The chestnut filly is a half sister to Group 1 winners Galileo and Black Sam Bellamy, she is also a half sister to stakes winners Melikah (2nd in the Irish Oaks) and Urban Ocean (winner of the Gallinule Stakes). Urban Sea, a daughter of leading broodmare sire Miswaki, is a three parts sister to English 2000 Guineas winner, King’s Best. This is the family of classic winner Anabaa Blue and the smart German horse, Anzillero. The filly was purchased by Live Oak Plantation.

The highest priced colt foal to sell was the Danehill colt, purchased by Demi O’Byrne for 510,000 guineas. The colt, consigned by Barton Stud, comes from the family of Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos and leading sires Brian’s Time and Dynaformer.

Another daughter of the “Iron Horse, who fetched 400,000 was the half sister to Group 1 placed Gold Academy. Out of Soha (by outstanding broodmare sire Dancing Brave out of Italian Oaks winner Paris Royal), the filly was bought by John Magnier. The filly comes from one of the best families in the British stud book and it includes In The Wings and English Derby hero, High-Rise.

The Tattersalls December Mare Sale begins today and is high on quality.
