RECORD FOR ROCK

Rock of Gibraltar bids to become the first horse to win seven Group 1 races in a row. The prolific son of Danehill runs in the Prix du Moulin on Sunday. Aiden O’Brien’s remarkable colt will be adding to his wins in the English 2000 Guineas, Irish 2000 Guineas, St James Palace Stakes and the Sussex Stakes - which he won this year. At two he took out the Grand Criterium and Dewhurst Stakes. Despite having had a hard campaign it is hard to see him being defeated here.

His main opposition looks to come from his paternal half sister, Banks Hill. The daughter of the mighty Danehill had disappointed in her two starts prior to the Prix Jacques le Marois, but she redeemed her reputation with a game win in the latter.  The opposition looked rather weak in the latter race and she needs to improve in order for her to beat “The Rock”.

The Danehill siblings look to be the pair to beat but Luca Cumani’s top class filly, Gossamer, should give them a run if the ground suits the daughter of Sadler’s Wells. She was outstanding when winning the Irish 1000 Guineas and despite a disappointing run in the Coronation Stakes she can bounce back here. Barathea’s sister has been rumoured to be catching pigeons in her work.

Bowman looked a colt on the up following a slightly unlucky third to Landseer in the French 2000 Guineas. He ran below par in the St James Palace Stakes and will need to come on to be a threat to “The Rock”.

Proudwings lost the Prix Jacques le Marois on disqualification last year but has not recaptured her best form since. She is a top class mare but needs to improve on her runs this year.
