RACING BACK AT KENILWORTH ON
 SUNDAY, 8 FEBRUARY 2004

(Media Release)
3 February 2004

Racing returns to Kenilworth Racecourse in the Western Cape on Sunday, 8 February 2004, after a nine-week break following the outbreak of Equine Influenza, which affected the majority of horses in the care of Western Cape trainers.

The action re-commences with a full nine-race programme, boasting the return of Cape favourites like Eli’s Game, African Lion, Glamour Boy, Malinga, Laredo Gold and Casino Queen, to name but a few.

With the 2004 J&B Met being eagerly awaited by racing enthusiasts world-wide, and now scheduled to be run on 3 April this year, the tempo in the Western Cape is understandably upbeat. The focus will be being on top quality racing, throughout March, reaching fever-pitch by early April. The day as usual promises to be a bumper event sporting an extravaganza of racing, which will include three Grade 1 and one Grade 2 event.

Preceding events will include the R500 000 Queen’s Plate (Grade 1) which for the first time, will have an association with Sun International, and will be run in conjunction with the R250 000 Cape Breeders Cup Paddock Stakes (Grade 1) and the R150 000 WPOTA Peninsula Handicap (Grade 3) on 13 March 2004.
