The
colt, from the first crop of Grade 2 winner Comic Strip (a half
brother by Red Ransom to Lucayan Prince), was sold for AUS$250,000. This
is the family of Storm Cat, Royal Academy and the exciting sire
prospect Lizard Island. The
colt was bought by Jimmy Gladwell. Storm
Cat’s son out of the Grade 1 winner Clear Mandate tops the sale at
this stage. The colt, whose first two dams both won Grade 1 races,
was purchased by Demi O’Byrne for $2.5 million. The
top filly to date is the own daughter of Gone West and Daijin. The
dam is a Grade 1 winning full sister to Belmont Hero, Touch Gold.
The filly, whose half sister Handpainted looks very smart, was
purchased for $1.45 million by Live Oak Plantation. The
mighty Empress Club was represented by a colt by Mt Livermore (sire
of Breeders Cup Sprint favourite, Orientate). The brown colt was
bought by Vinery for $130,000. A half brother to stakes winner Azouz
Pasha and the smart Summerzene, this is the family of Eventuail. Horse
Chestnut has had three offspring fetch over $100,000 so far. The
filly out of Relaunch mare, Relasure was sold for $110,000. She was
sold to Lucky Seven Stable. John
Ferguson bought the most expensive Horse Chestnut, a colt out of the
well bred Evening Primrose for $185,000. The colt is from the family
of classic placed Simeon, Melbourne Cup hero Jeune and Group 2 hero
Beneficial. His chestnut son out of Lenient was bought for $100,000
by White Horse Stable. Lenient is a daughter of Mt Livermore from
the family of Night Shift and L’Enjoleur. Her granddam is the
legendary Franfreluche. The
ageing South African star, Wolf Power had a filly sell for $112,000.
The gray filly was purchased by Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey. She is a
daughter of Ferd’s Nymph, by Horse of the Year Ferdinand. Well
bred and Group 1 placed Northfields mare, Northern Girl, had a
chestnut colt by Hennessy sell for $90,000. Bought by well known
owner Eugene Melnyk, the colt is from the family of Hinterland and
Foveros. The
sale continues until the 21st of September 2002. |
