It’s the final count down to the 111th running of the Vodacom
Durban July which will be run at Greyville Racecourse on,
Saturday, 7 July 2007 (07-07-07) trainers are putting the
finishing preparation touches to the preparation to their
runners in Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event.
Gauteng trainer Sean Tarry said on Thursday that the preparation
of his two Vodacom Durban July charges, Succesful Bidder
and Buy And Sell, had gone very well and one or two days
lost due to the current rains won’t make any difference
to them.
Regarding their draws of 15 and 11 respectively, he said
that he would have been happier to be closer to the rail
but thinks they will both handle their draws fine.
He is not sure where the pace will come from and reckoned
that one or two horses drawn wide might be forced to lead.
He said that the July always has a reasonable pace but he
in fact will be happy whatever the pace for either of his
charges.
He said that both horses had done well in soft or firm
going but added that soft conditions would favour Buy And
Sell.
When told that some had commented that Buy And Sell looked
as “hard as nails” before winning the Daily News 2200 and
questioned whether there was anything left to work with,
Tarry said that if they knew the horse they wouldn’t have
any such concern. He said Buy And Sell is a light-framed
horse and added that the best hadn’t been seen of him yet.
When questioned on Succesful Bidder’s J&B Met run and
the impression given that Pocket Power had left him flat-footed
at one stage he said that a closer look at the replay will
have shown that Succesful Bidder was interfered with at
that moment.
Succesful Bidder ran on well after that.
He also showed a fine turn of foot when winning the Drill
Hall Stakes, mowing the field down with ease from off the
pace.
Tarry confirmed that Succesful Bidder can turn it on in
the straight.
Tarry gives both his charges equal chances and said it
was very hard to separate them.
He was not too sure of who the dangers would be but mentioned
Kildonan and Jagged Ice.
