Apprentice Muzi Yeni, who in June received the
Gold Circle Jockey Achiever Award for his successes during the month,
has won the Gold Circle Apprentice Challenge for the season which
came to an end at Clairwood on All Stars Day last Saturday.
Yeni was in an unassailable position going into the final leg of
the challenge with 77 points as his main rival, Sihle Cele who was
on 38 points, was not taking part in the R42 000, Whitehouse Tattersalls
Apprentice 2000 which made up the final leg.
Yeni was on Mike De Kock’s runner Happy Talk for the race and had
been tipped in many quarters to win the race. However, the Rakeen
gelding failed to deliver the goods and it was apprentice Raymond
Danielson who won the race coming from off the pace on the other
De Kock runner, Cycad.
Yeni received the Gold Circle Apprentice Challenge Floating Trophy
with 77 points. In second was Sihle Cele on 38 points and third
place went to Raymond Danielson on 31 points.
The other finishing positions in the Challenge were: Sandile Khathi
(22); Ian Sturgeon (16); Gavin Lerena (15); Richard Fourie (13);
Christopher Puller (10); Luke Coleman (4) and Kevin Derere and Lesetja
Katjedi (1).
