Gold Circle is pleased to once again host an Amateur Sprint Challenge Series featuring horses and riders from the amateur racing communities.
The first of the races will take place on Sunday, 14 October 2007, at Scottsville Racecourse over 1000m. This race has been carded in the official racecard as Race 11 and the off time will be at 10:40.
These races provide rural racing communities with a platform to showcase their talents and assists them and their communities with meaningful development.
Since its inception in 2005, this series has aroused tremendous interest amongst these communities so much so that there is an ever increasing number of horses nominated for participation. Sunday’s race had attracted 19 acceptors, however owing to the restriction of fields of 14 runners only, it became necessary for Gold Circle to eliminate five horses from this race.
Jay Harrielall, Racing Manager and co-ordinator of Amateur Racing for Gold Circle, stated that “there is a concerted effort from members of the rural communities to purchase retired racehorses and to become involved as meaningful participants in growing amateur racing as a result of its ever increasing popularity, both at professional and rural race tracks.”
The remaining three legs of the Amateur Sprint Challenge Series will take place at Scottsville Racecourse over the months of November (over 1100m), December (over 1200m) and January 2008 (over 1200m). The horse which accumulates the most points in the Sprint Challenge will earn bonus prize money. |
