The two-year-old filly, Asylum Seeker, is fit and well and ready to make her bid for the R1-million bonus when she runs in the R350 000, Grade 1 Nal Al Sheba Thekwini Fillies Stakes over 1 600 metres at Clairwood Racecourse on Saturday.

Victory will make her the first horse to win a bonus since the introduction of the South African All Stars Series. She won the South African Fillies Nursery at Turffontein and the Grade 1 Durban Africa Golden Slipper at Greyville to qualify for a crack at the R1-million bonus.

Trainer Roy Magner said today she had come through her preparation well and was ready for the difficult task that lies ahead of her on Saturday.

“We have taken her to our local course and run her round the other way to see if she changes legs and handles the left hand turn and she did so perfectly.

“We are doing everything the same way as we did for the race at Greyville. She will travel to Durban on Friday and then to the course on Saturday.

“She is facing a number of firsts in this race – the first time from a bad draw at 16, the first time round a left hand bend and the first time over a mile.

“We have tested her round a left hand bend and she handled that well enough and the mile should not be a problem. We don't know a great deal about her sire Count Dubois but he has had a daughter that went the Oaks distance.

“The big worry is the draw and if she can overcome that then I think she will be a very big runner.”

He said everyone was excited about the possibility of winning the R1-million bonus. “It is a great opportunity.”

He said three of the four owners, Eben and Isobel Prinsloo and Barry Welch, would be travelling to Durban for the race while John Wright is in England – “but he will be following the race with us.”

Asylum Seeker, who has won four of her six starts, is in line to be voted South Africa 's Champion Two-Year-Old Filly at the Equus Awards later in the year.
