The
KwaZulu-Natal Bookmakers’ Society has entered into a R750 000
sponsorship agreement with
Gold Circle
.
The
sponsorship will be administered by
Gold Circle
over a three-year period for the last race of every
KwaZulu-Natal racemeeting, which will be named “The KZN
Bookmakers’ Get-out Stakes”.
In
addition to the sponsorship, the KZN Bookmakers’ Society and
Gold Circle
have agreed to jointly fund a R100 000 competition for the
trainers and jockeys who are placed first, second and third in
the last race of the day.
The
trainers and jockeys will be awarded 3 points each for finishing
first, 2 for second place and 1 for third place in the last race
of the card between 1 August 2004 and 31 July 2005.
The
trainer and jockey who secure the most points during this period
will get R30 000 each, second prize is R15 000 each and third
prize is R5 000 each.
The
awards will be made at the end of the KwaZulu-Natal Winter
Season.
(Feature
race days which already have a sponsor for the last race will be
excluded from the sponsorship but not from the competition.)
Val
Grantham, Chairman of the KZN Bookmakers’ Society, said:
“This sponsorship is our member bookmakers’ way of putting
something back into the sport of horseracing in the province by
recognising the dedication and efforts of trainers and
jockeys”.
“In
addition to the prize money, a floating trophy will be awarded
to the winning trainer and jockey,” he added.
Gold
Circle CEO Michel Nairac said the sponsorship was welcomed as an
indication of the bookmakers’ commitment to racing.
