Last year's Paddock Stakes heroine, Crimson Palace, won the group three Middleton Stakes at York on Wednesday. The daughter of Elliodor won the race by three parts of a length from smart filly, Benevenuta. The third home, Summitville - previously third in the Epsom Oaks, was beaten by over 11 lengths.

Crimson Palace, who now races for Godolphin, was coming off a fourth place in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes. Ridden by Frankie Dettori, who describes the filly as "a star", she will be ultimately aimed at the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington later this year.
The race was run over ten furlongs.

The death of Danehill looks more and more tragic, as his son North Light won the Dante Stakes. Yesterday his daughters Punctilious and Steel Princess won the Musidora Stakes and Prix Cleopatra, respectively. His daughter Grey Lilas is one of the fancied runners in Sunday's French 1000 Guineas.
His grandson Monsieur Bond won the Group Two Duke of York Stakes while his daughter Baraka won the Lingfield Oaks Trial on Saturday. In Australia his grandson Dance Hero is one of the best two year olds of the last few years, having swept the two year old triple crown.

North Light was ridden by Kieran Fallon for Sir Michael Stoute and won the ten furlong race by half a length over Rule of Law. The colt is out of the group one winner Sought Out.
