South Africa's first equine millionaire, Model Man, died on Friday. The stallion broke his leg at Odessa Stud where he stood his entire stud career. He was 23.

A great racehorse, Model Man won five Gp'1s including the Met and Mainstay International.
He was twiced placed in the July, fourth to Occult and second to Bush Telegraph.
One of his best known races was his narrow second place in Main Man's Mainstay 1800, Bush Telegraph running third in that particular race.

Model Man, who lost his form after winning the Champion Stakes, was retired to Odessa in 1988. He enjoyed considerable success at stud and is one of the most successful locally bred horses ever to retire to stud in South Africa. The sire of 35 stakes winners, Model Man is becoming an important broodmare sire.
He is best known as the sire of the magnificent two-year-old Special Preview, who himself is at stud.

Other top horses sired by Model Man include Paddock Stakes winners League Title and Model School, SA Nursery winners Bold Cruiser, Fallon and Private Reserve as well as the likes of Fair Model, Amberpondo, Legality and Glamour Boy.

He is the broodmare sire of the likes of Sabina Park, National Spirit, Philippa Johnson, Monet and Boston Globe.
