Glorious Song

Former champion race filly and top class broodmare, Glorious Song, has died following unsuccessful intestinal surgery. The daughter of Halo was euthanized following the surgery. The mare was 27.

Formerly owned by Frank Stronach, Glorious Song was named the Eclipse Champion Older mare in North America in 1980. She was named Canada’s Horse of the Year in the same year. She was also twice Canada’s Champion Older mare.

As a four year old she won six of 11 starts including three Grade 1 races including the Top Flight Handicap and La Canada Stakes. She won the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes at five. She defeated males on several occasions and also ran second to the great Spectacular Bid.

Glorious Song was an extremely influential broodmare. She produced eight winners from 11 foals. But her influence continues through her outstanding sire son, Rahy. Another son Singspiel followed in his mother’s footsteps by becoming a North American Champion. Singspiel is now a successful young sire. Another son, Rakeen, sired one of South Africa’s greatest champions in Jet Master.

Her influence also comes through her daughter, Morn of Song, dam of Prix Vermeille heroine Mezzo Soprano.
