DIESIS PENSIONED

Former champion two-year-old and leading sire Diesis has been pensioned. The 26 year old horse, who stood his whole career at Mill Ridge Stud, was found to have problems with his back side. He had covered just six mares.

Trained by Henry Cecil, Diesis completed the rare double of the Middle Park/ Dewhurst Stakes as a two-year-old which resulted in him being named champion two-year-old. He failed to recapture that form as a three-year-old and was retired to stud.

Like his champion full brother Kris, Diesis had great success in the Epsom Oaks. Kris sired two Oaks winners and was the broodmare sire of another, whilst Diesis was represented by three winners of that English classic. Diesis made his name primarily in Europe, despite standing his full stud career in North America.

The sire of 83 stakes winners, Diesis' best performer was Halling, a five time Gp1 winner, who has gone on to have a successful stud career himself. Diesis' grandson Muhtathir is one of France's leading young sires. Other high-class runners by Diesis are Husband, Rootentootenwooten, Keen Hunter, Altibr, Three Valleys and Oaks runner up Pricket. His Oaks winners Diminuendo and Ramruma both went to win the Irish equivalent, whilst his third Oaks winner was Love Divine.

Diesis' influence is widely felt as a broodmare sire through the likes of Hayil, Queen's Logic, Carmine Lake, Calando, Crimplene, Senure and Zanzibar.
