There were few surprises in the list of Eclipse Award finalists for the 2003 North American racing year. The surprises came in the juvenile division namely the exclusion of unbeaten star, Lion Heart, for champion two year old colt and the preference for minor stakes winner Victory U.S.A. over grade 1 winners Society Selection and Hollywood Story. This year sees a change in voting format and will be determined by popular vote.

The 33rd edition of the Eclipse Awards will be presented on the 26th January in Florida.
