The Goffs Million Sale begins on September 26 th . The sale runs until the 28 th of the same month. All the leading sires in Europe, and many from North America, are well represented at Goffs.
Europe's number one sire, the great Sadler's Wells, has ten lots on the sale, among them being a filly from Irish 1000 Guineas winner Tarascon and a colt from another Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Hula Angel. There is also a half-sister to Second Empire, who is closely related to the great Salsabil.
Sadler's Wells' top sons In The Wings (2) Montjeu (20) and Galileo (24) have all got progeny on the sale, whilst another Sadler's Wells stallion, High Chaparral, is represented by his crop of yearlings. High Chaparral has 11 yearlings on offer, including a three-parts sister to Gr1 winner Subtle Power.
Danehill Dancer, enjoying his best ever year at stud, has widely been tipped as the next Danehill. He has some choicely bred yearlings on offer here, 38 no less, including a filly out of former SA star filly Igreja and a half-sister to champion Intikhab. His sons Choisir and Where or When have been got yearlings from the first crop here.
Kingmambo has been to the fore of late, siring the $11.7 million sale topper at the Keeneland September Sale. He has two yearlings for sale, including the magnificently bred colt out of Chimes of Freedom, a ¾ brother to champion Aldebaran. His son King's Best came to the fore last year with two Gp1 winners from his first crop and has 17 lots here. Of particular South African interest is the first foal of Kournikova, a filly. Two other prominent sons of Kingmambo, Dubai Destination and Lemon Drop Kid, both have representatives on the sale. Dubai Destination, another whose first crop this is, has 17 yearlings for sale. Amongst these is a filly out of Gp1 winner Bianca Nera and a half-sister to Golden Arrow. Lemon Drop Kid is a horse whose prospects are looking considerably brighter than a year ago. The 1999 Belmont Stakes winner has two on offer, a colt and a filly.
Machiavellian's death robbed the British breeding industry of one of it's best sires. The son of Mr Prospector has two beautifully bred colts on offer - half-brother to Blue Monday and a full brother to Gp3 winner Morning Pride. His son Medicean is widely regarded as the hottest young sire around. He has five lots on offer and bidding should be fierce on them. Another Machiavellian horse to make a bright start to his career at stud is the brilliant Street Cry. He has four lots on the sale.
Pivotal has enjoyed his customary good year, especially with his juveniles, and has nine on offer. The filly out of top sprinter Cassandra Go is nicely bred, as the superbly bred colt out of stakes winner Just Special.
Diesis has recently retired from stud duty and there should be plenty of interest in his three yearlings. Lot 649 is a three parts brother to the Gr1 winner Storm Trooper and is from the family of Storm Bird.
The progeny of hot young sires Invincible Spirit (9), Johannesburg (5) and US sensation Officer (1) should also be much sought after.
Other leading sires to be represented at Goffs include Rahy (1), Giant's Causeway (3), Gone West (3), Green Desert (7), Hennessy (1), Linamix (2), Highest Honor (2) and Indian Ridge (6).
