The three feature events at the big Clairwood Racemeeting
in Durban on June 11 has attracted an additional 11 entries.
The new entries include Mike Azzie’s exciting four-year-old Badger
Land colt, Night Watch, considered to be a Vodacom Durban July
contender. The colt is the sole supplementary entry in the R600
000, Grade 1 Gold Challenge over 1 600 metres. He comes off a
very good win in the Listed Sledgehammer over 1 800 metres at
Scottsville earlier this month.
The Gold Challenge is a weight-for-age event which now has an
entry of 23 horses and is the top mile event in the province in
the winter season.
The R150 000, Grade 2 Tibouchina Stakes over 1 450 metres has
received three additional entries in Dave Goss’s Dream Come True,
Weiho Marwing’s Platinum Rose and Paul Denysschen’s Punters Dream.
This is a race for fillies and mares at weight-for-age terms and
the supplementary nominations raise the entry list to 32.
The final feature on the day is the R125 000, Grade 3 Cup Trial,
a merit-rated handicap over 1 800 metres where the winner gains
automatic entry into the R500 000, Grade 1 Champions Cup to be
run over 1 800 metres at Clairwood on July 30.
Alec Laird has entered three horses as supplementary nominations,
Blue Rake, London Casino and Mist Of Gold and Dave Goss has added
Medal Ceremony to the entry list.
The three other additional entries are Paul Denysschen’s Rusedski,
Colin Lee’s Name The Key and Nic Claassen’s Up The Fard, increasing
the number of nominations to 35.
Acceptances for these races close at 11am on Thursday, June 2.
