GRADE1 TABLE BAY HOTEL CAPE FILLIES GUINEAS

26 November 2004

A full field of 16 fillies, representing all major regions of South African racing, are set to clash in the R500 000, Grade 1 Table Bay Hotel Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth on Saturday, December 4.

This is the first leg of the South African Sun International SA Triple Tiara, which carries a bonus of R1-million for any filly winning all three legs and includes the best three-year-olds from around the country.

Geoff Woodruff has accepted with his star young filly Royal Approval, the three-year-old daughter of Al Mufti who put up an outstanding performance when winning the Grade 2 Ipi Tombe Challenge over 1 600 metres at Turffontein. She beat a classy field including the likes of Ilha Da Vitoria, Costa Marfil, Overarching and Joie De Vivre. She meets Mike Bass’s super filly, Easyjadeasy, who is rated one of the best of her gender in the Western Cape. Easyjadeasy is supported from the Bass stable by Joshua’s Princess and Traviata.

Mike de Kock has two useful contenders in Fair Maiden and Irridescence and, together with the other runners from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, will come up against a strong Western Cape contingent in addition to Easyjadeasy, including Dean Kannemeyer’s filly Fort Belvedere, Justin Snaith’s Australian import, Rose Gypsy, and Joey Ramsden’s Shadow Dancing. Others include Shane Humby’s Happy Hostess and Glen Kotzen’s White Satin.

This is a strong field of fillies and, with north meeting south for the first time, it will be a good pointer to how the other two legs of the Sun International Triple Tiara, the R500 000 Sun City SA Fillies Classic over 1 800 metres at Turffontein in April and the R500 000 Zimbali Lodge Woolavington 2200 at Greyville next June, could turn out and whether there could be a winner of the R1-million bonus.
