GRADE ONE WINNER FOR HORSE CHESTNUT

Horse Chestnut was represented by his first Grade One winner on Sunday when Lucifer's Stone won the Garden City Breeders Cup Handicap Belmont Park.
Lucifer's Stone is the former Horse of the Year's sole Graded Stakes winner to date, and she hails from his first crop. The bay is trained by Linda Rice and was ridden by Jose Santos. She is from the immediate family of the late champion Left Bank.
The three year old filly, sent off at 9-1 in the seven horse field, won the mile and an eight race by a length and a quarter. The second home, Barancella, was a useful sort in France running respectably in the French Oaks. The third filly home was Noahs Ark, three parts of a length further back.
The fancied runners, Group One winners Necklace and Torrestrella, both disappointed. Necklace, last year's Moyglare Stud Stakes winner, was coming off a third place to Crimson Palace in the Beverly D Stakes and Torrestrella, winner of the French 1000 Guineas, was making her US debut for trainer Christophe Clement.
