Grand Lodge, champion two year old colt in the UK in 1993 and a leading sire, was euthanized on Tuesday. He had shattered a knee while standing at Woodlands Stud in Australia. He was 12. It was the second major loss suffered by Coolmore Stud following Danehill's death earlier this year.

Grand Lodge, won the Dewhurst Stakes as a two year old. He confirmed his ability as a three year old when second in the English 2000 Guineas and successful in the St James Palace Stakes. Bred and owned by Lord Howard Walden, he was trained by William Jarvis.

He retired to Coolmore as a four year old. He sired 34 stakes winners from six crops to race to date. His best known runner was Sinndar, winner of the Epsom and Irish Derbies and Prix de'l Arc de Triomphe, whilst other group/ grade one winners sired by him include the brilliant Queens Logic, Indian Lodge, Grandera and Australian stars Shogun Lodge and Freemason. In South Africa Grand Lodge was represented by Golden Slipper winner Autumn Lodge.
