 RETIREMENT

The once beaten Act One has been retired due to injury. The son of In The Wings was coming off his sole defeat when second to Sulamani in the French Derby. Bred by the late  Gerald Leigh, he will now be retired to stud in England.

Act One was a top class two year old when winning his three starts. His wins at two include taking the Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon, defeating subsequent Group 1 winner Rouvres, and winning the inaugural Criterium International. In that race he defeated subsequent French 2000 Guineas hero Landseer. Act One was the sole colt, not trained by Aiden O’Brien, to win a European Group 1 race for two year olds.

At three he won his first two starts in brilliant fashion. After winning the classic trial, the Prix Greffuhle, Act One won the group 1 Prix Lupin.

He was defeated for the only time when Sulamani beat him on his final start.

Trained by Jonathan Pease, trainer of Breeders Cup winners Tikkanen and Spinning World, Act One is from the family of Lammtarra, Bosra Sham, Awaasif and successful sire Luhuk.

Pease said Act One was the best horse he ever trained but like close relative Lammtarra, his career was all too short.
