THE J&B MET – DATE CHANGE CONFIRMATION

The 2004 J&B Met, to be run for the first time for the increased stake of R1,5 million, will be held at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday 3 April.

The J&B Met is one of South Africa’s most prestigious horse races and Cape Town’s premier social event. In addition, the sponsorship, now in its 27th year, is the largest Justerini & Brooks undertakes anywhere in the world.

Gold Circle, together with the event organisers, have therefore erred on the side of caution with respect to the new date scheduled, thus enabling stables, affected by the recent equine flu, to be back at full strength.

'The change of date for 2004 will not impact on the importance of the event to the economy of the Western Cape,' says J&B marketing manager Wesley von Willingh. 'If anything, the change of date could lead to a bigger and better J&B Met. Our pre-sales of hospitality packages, usually a good indication of attendance, are up on last year. An extra two months will boost these figures even further,' added Von Willingh.

Extensive meetings have taken place with the Cape Town City authorities, television partners and respective agencies and the organisers are confident that a top class J&B Met will be held on 3 April.

Tickets for the J&B Met will go on sale through Computicket in mid-February.
