Japanese raiders enjoyed a huge night on World Cup night a few weeks, winning two races with Utopia and Heart's Cry. The latter is a son of the late Sunday Silence, who dominated Japan's feature races this weekend.
Arguably Sunday Silence's best son, Deep Impact, won the Tenno Sho (Gr1) by nearly four lengths from fellow Sunday Silence colts Lincoln and Stratagem.
Deep Impact, last year's Horse of the Year, has now won nine of ten starts, including last year's Triple Crown.
The previous day saw the running of the TV Tokyo Hai Aoba Sho (Gr3). The mile and a half race was won impressively by another son of Sunday Silence, Admire Main. The three-year-old won by four from Meiner Alabanza (a grandson of Sunday Silence) and Eishin Tenry (a son of Sunday Silence). Admire Main will now be aimed at the Japanese Derby.
