A son of the all conquering Kingmambo topped the three day Goffs
Million Sale.
The bay, out of gp1 placed Karsavina, was purchased for 1.8 million
guineas by Sheikh Hamdan.
The colt is from the immediate family of Travers Stakes winner
Flower Alley and champion sire Lyphard.
Danehill, as expected, dominated proceedings. Three of the
top ten lots were sons and a daughter of the late stallion.
Two others were by two of his most popular sons-in Danehill
Dancer and the champion Rock of Gibraltar. Danehill was the
second most expensive sire on sale-all 12 of his yearlings offered
were sold-behind Kingmambo. Kingmambo was represented by two
lots, which averaged over a million euros.
Sadler's Wells had a poor sale, by his standards, which reflects
the quiet year he is having. A grey colt by him, closely related
to Saint-Alary winner Luna Wells, reached 400,000 euros-his
top lot.
Son Galileo, who enjoyed a good sale, was represented by the
second top lot of the sale-a three parts brother to Gp1 winner
Damson and Gp3 winner Geminiani.
The colt sold for 950,000 euros-to Demi O'Byrne.
Another sire who has been hugely popular in both the recent
Irish and North America sales is Mr Greeley. The latter had
only two lots on offer at Goffs. They sold for an average of
265,000-while at Keeneland's recent September Sale his own brother
to El Corredor reached $2.7 million and another colt reached
$1 million. Mr Greeley now stands at Gainesway.
The two most popular stallions represented by their first yearlings
were the Coolmore owned Rock of Gibraltar and Johannesburg.
Rock of Gibraltar averaged 165, 625 for his 16 yearlings. Just
two of his offspring failed to find homes. Johannesburg sold
all five of his yearlings for an average of 149, 400.
Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Est was the leading buyer with 18
lots averaging over 270,000 euros. He was followed by John Ferguson
and BBA Ireland.
