THE KwaZulu-Natal Racing Chapter Grooms School at Summerveld near Durban
is to introduce a literacy course next year, which will be nationally recognised.
This was revealed this week by Mr Tony Rivalland, General Manager of the
KwaZulu-Natal Racing Chapter at the Schools Annual Graduation
Function.
Prizes and
certificates were awarded to the nine students who successfully
completed the latest grooms school course which teaches work riding
skills, stable management and literacy. Among the students was Anisa
Mahomed Sha, the very first woman to successfully complete the course.
Prizes were awarded
to the three top students from the course with Siyabonga Magushani
taking first prize, Bhekizitha Nduku second and Zamikhaya Hoya third.
Gold Circle Managing
Director, Mr David Furness, was on hand to present a cheque for R20
000 to the school. The money was raised at a charity function earlier
in the year and will go towards providing equipment to improve the
teaching facilities at the school.
The prizes and
certificates were handed out by Chief Operations Officer for Gold
Circle, Mr Michel Nairac.
Mr Rivalland said in
welcoming those attending the function that the school, run by
lecturer Bennett Bulana assisted by former trainer, Buller Benton and
operates three courses a year attended by between eight and 10
students. He said it was gratifying to know that every single student
who had successfully completed the course had obtained full-time
employment as a result.
