Horse Chestnut’s first crop son Chester Le Street was second  in the group 3 Superlative Stakes on the final day of the Newmarket July meeting.

The Mark Johnston trained colt led for much of the race before Kings Point beat him a short head in the closing stages. Ridden by Daryll Holland, Chester Le Street confirmed the promise shown when winning his penultimate start by over ten lengths.

The winner, a son of champion two year old and leading young sire Fasliyev, is highly thought of by his trainer, Richard Hannon.

Chester Le Street gave his sire his first group horse in his first crop. He is also represented by the smart Thomas Lawrence from a handful of runners to date.

Horse Chestnut is one of the all time greats to have raced in South Africa. He was champion three year old colt and Horse of the Year after completing a campaign which included an eight length romp in the Met and a ten length rout of the SA Derby.

He won 9 of 10 starts before breaking down in North America where he was retired to stud at Claiborne Farm.

Horse Chestnut suffered a bout of colic earlier this year but has made a satisfactory recovery.
