Former champion two year old and leading sire Machiavellian was euthanized following his deteriorating condition.
The 17 year old had been suffering from laminitis for a long time.

A champion at two, he was unbeaten in his first four starts. His wins include a pair of Group One success - in the Prix Salamandre and Morny. He retired to stud at the end of his three year old season. He stood at Dalham Hall throughout his career where he sired 43 stakes winners. He was standing for a private fee during the last couple of seasons.

His best runner was Street Cry, winner of the Dubai World Cup, while another son Almutawakel won the same race in 1999.
Other Group/Grade One winners by the sire include Rebecca Sharp, Right Approach, Vettori, Best of the Bests and Medicean. He is currently represented by sons Kahal and Asaal at stud in South Africa. Other sons at stud include high class sprinter Titus Livius, sire of Hong Kong star, Tiber.
