**PRESS RELEASE**
In November 2004, the South African Veterinary Services and the SA Horse Import & Export Council (now Racing South Africa) received a strong mandate from the Western Province Horse Groups to pursue changes to the EU protocol. At a public meeting held on Monday 20 November 2006 at Kenilworth Racecourse, there was unanimous support for the proposed changes which will now be presented to the European Commission for possible adoption. The South African Veterinary Services will make a formal announcement once the EU has responded to the proposals.
