As expected there was a lot of interest shown in the sole Dubai Millennium yearling offered at the Goffs Orby Sale which began on Tuesday.

The colt, out of a sister to Salsabil and from the family of the likes of Northern Spur, Alcide and Second Empire, was bought by John Ferguson for 1.2 million Euros on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed.

The colt is from the only crop sired by the magnificent Dubai World Cup winner, who died of grass sickness in his first season at stud.

The next highest priced yearling on the day was the 420,000 spent on a Nureyev colt. The last son of the late, great sire was bought by Shadwell Stud. The colt’s second dam won the Prix Morny and is a half sister to another Morny winner in Seven Springs.

The following day saw a Grand Lodge colt top the session at 500,000. From the family of leading sires Last Tycoon and Polar Falcon, the colt was purchased by Anthony Stroud and will be sent to leading trained Michael Jarvis.

A yearling filly from Grand Lodge’s dual Derby winning son, Sinndar, was sold for 470,000.

Arabian Lass’s son by Grand Lodge was sold for 75,000 to the BBA Ireland. The colt is a half brother to twice placed in three starts Larmi.
