$14 million AUDEMARS PIGUET QUEEN ELIZABETH 11 CUP

24 April 2006

Gold Circle is proud to congratulate Michael De Kock and Weichong Marwing on the scintillating victory of the South African bred Irridescence in the prestigious Grade 1 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth 11 Cup run over 2000 metres  at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong earlier today. The victory continued the proud record that South Africans have achieved in this race over the past few years , with London News having won it in 1997 , South African Jockey Glynn Schofield winning it in 2004 and Mike De Kocks' Greys Inn having run a great second in 2005. Irridescence , by Ceasour out of the Dancing Champ mare Meretricious and thus a full sister to Perfect Promise who herself clinched a Grade 1 event against the colts in Australia recently , has now won eight of her thirteen starts and stands proudly alongside her illustrious Grade 1 winning  Team Valor stable companions Ipi Tombe and Crimson Palace . Putting aside the traumatic disappointment of hurting herself in the parade ring moments before the running of the Dubai Duty Free last month , she displayed terrific gate speed to catapult out of her number six stall-gate and was never headed under an exemplary ride by Weichong Marwing who showed once again that he has few peers when it comes to the judgement of pace and that he  can hold his own anywhere in the world.  She held on to win by a head from Super Kid with the well supported Ouija Board a further short head back in third place. De Kock's other runner Falstaff was ridden by South African Jockey Douglas Whyte. He was slow away and never recovered thereafter. A truly momentous moment that will go down in the annals of South African Horseracing history  and we proudly join in the celebrations of racing fans countrywide as we  toast a superbly  professional winning team .
