Lammerskraal's successful sire, Rakeen, was euthanized following complications to his hock injury. He was twenty.
Lightly raced, Rakeen won two of his three starts in Britain before being exported to South Africa. His best performances in SA came in winning the Allan Snijman Stakes (Gp3) and running third to Horse of the Year Flaming Rock in the Rothmans July Hcp (Gp1).
During a fluctuating stud career, Rakeen hit some real highs. His son Jet Master, now a champion sire, was Horse of the Year, whilst other Gp1 winners for Rakeen include Angelina, North By Northwest, Young Rake and recent Summer Cup hero Malteme. He sired 16 stakes winners and stood at stud both in South Africa and in the US.
Rakeen is also making a name for himself as a broodmare sire. His daughters have produced the likes of Far de Vie and Orange Alert.
