The sensational winner of last year's Vodacom Durban July, Eyeofthetiger,
heads the list of 26 entries for the R100 000 Listed Rising
Sun Easter Handicap over 2 000m at Clairwood Racecourse on April
7.
The popular racemeeting at the southern Durban venue also features
the R100 000 Listed Phoenix Sun KwaZulu-Natal Stakes over 1
000m which has drawn a competitive entry of 24 including Mark
Dixon's three-year-old filly Nottgalashia who has won four of
her last five starts.
The two races head the 10-race card for the Gold Circle Rising
Sun Racing Carnival where fashion, fun and loads of entertainment
for the whole family will be the order of the day.
A massive entry of 347 horses have been entered for the meeting.
One of the races has received 78 entries while another event
has drawn 62 entries.
Eyeofthetiger's trainer, Dean Kannemeyer, has also entered
his Green Point Stakes winner Jagged Ice who ran a gutsy second
in the Daily News 2200 last season.
Eyeofthetiger has been entered for South Africa's richest race,
the R3-million Gommagomma Challenge at Turffontein and the Rising
Sun Easter Handicap will be the four-year-old colt's preparation
step into that important race if he stands his ground.
The entries for this race include Sean Tarry's Apple-A-Day
who was runner up in the Aquanaut Handicap at the Vaal recently
while Mike de Kock has nominated Chestnut Oak, Excalibur and
Goldsmith.
The day will feature an exotic car display, food and flea market
stalls, live entertainment and a fashion competition and will
close with a popular bhangra bash immediately after the running
of the last race.
