It has been reluctantly decided by The Western Cape Breeders Club
committee not to shuttle a stallion this year.
There have been a number of contributing
factors to this decision including problems with the Stallion Station
at Milnerton where a major residential development has started, which
could most likely disrupt the living conditions of our stallion. Also
there was an outside possibility that the station would be taken away
from us before the stallion had finished his season here.
Other contributing factors was that
initially we had tried to get Kabool here for a two year period which
Darley Stud had at first agreed in principle, but due to the high
quality of his foals now being born in France, the French insisted
that he return to cover next season. That really left it too late to
make other arrangements.
However, I can assure you that next season
we will shuttle at least one stallion and I will have the opportunity
of personally discussing the possibilities at Darley Stud next month.
As a Club, we must also enter into
discussions with Dr Guthrie to try and get the free zone extended so
that we can stand our stallions on a regular farm as the station in
Milnerton will definitely not be available for us next year.
