ONE of the top fillies ever to race in South Africa and an accomplished broodmare, Sistematic, has died at the Brockhill Stud at Nottingham Road in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands at the age of 29.

Owner Brian Moore released the news this week saying her passing has saddened him deeply but that her outstanding achievements and great fighting spirit would not be forgotten.

Born in 1974, she won 13 races from 1 000 metres to 1 600 metres and thrilled the crowds with her gutsy front-running tactics.

Her record was outstanding and her victories included the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship, the Grade 1 Garden Province Stakes, the Grade 1 South African Fillies Guineas, the Group 2 Tibouchina Stakes, the Poinsettia Stakes, Gosforth Park Fillies and the Flamboyant Stakes. She was also placed in the black type races such as the Natalia Stakes, The Hibiscus Fillies Nursery Stakes, the Hollis Trial and the Natal Fillies Sprint.

In winning the Garden Province Stakes she beat the brilliant filly Festive Season who went down in a photo finish to the mighty Politician in the J&B Met.

She proved to be a top broodmare at stud and passed on her brilliance to her daughters. She had 13 foals with her best being Star Sistem who bred black type performers Maiwand, Pelagos, Salamis and Henrietta Fair, the narrow loser of the very first R1-million race in South Africa in 1990.
