The Western Cape Summer Season swings into action at Kenilworth
Racecourse this weekend with the running of the R500 000, Grade
1 The Table Bay Hotel Cape Fillies Guineas and nominations have
now been received for the R600 000, Grade 1 Queen’s Plate and
the R300 000, Grade 1 Cape Of Good Hope Paddock Stakes to be run
at Kenilworth on January 1, 2005.
Saturday’s race has drawn a competitive field of three-year-old
fillies from all parts of the country and promises to produce
a thrilling race while the nominations for the two other races
mentioned should result in top-class contests in those two famous
races as well.
The Queen’s Plate, the first leg of the South African All Stars
Golden Mile Series, has received 25 entries including a number
of horses that competed in last weekends Gommagomma Summer Cup.
Among them is the Durban-based runner from the yard of Selvan
Moodley, Tamarino Bay, who ran a very credible fourth.
Geoff Woodruff’s classy filly, Promisefrommyheart, has been
entered in both the Queen’s Plate and the Paddock Stakes while
Mike de Kock has nominated his filly, Ilha Da Vitoria, third
in the Summer Cup, for the Paddock Stakes.
There are strong entries from Gauteng but the Western Cape
trainers are very well represented in both races, with Joey
Ramsden nominating six horses for the Queen’s Plate and four
for the Paddock Stakes. His Queen’s Plate entries include,Winter
Solstice, Set To Music and African Lion.
Mike Bass has two nominations for the Queen’s Plate in Sharief
Song and Eli’s Game and has six fillies entered for the Paddock
Stakes including Easyjadeasy who is one of the fancied runners
in The TAble Bay Hotel Cape Fillies Guineas this weekend.
Geoff Woodruff’s Paddock Stakes entries include his Al Mufti
filly, Royal Aproval, who won the Ipi Tombe Challenge and is
favourite for the Cape's Fillies feature on Saturday.
The entries for both races on January 1 are strong and promise
to kick off the new year with a thrilling day's racing at Kenilworth.
