Former South Africa, Ipi Tombe, was sold for 850,000 guineas on the second day of Tattersalls December Mares Sale. She is the highest priced mare sold at this year's sale with one day of the sale remaining.
The six year old mare is in foal to Sadler's Wells. James Delahooke purchased the mare on behalf of American clients.

A champion at three in South Africa, where her wins included a last gasp breakthrough in the July, Ipi Tombe won 12 of 14 starts. Her biggest win came in the Dubai Duty Free defeating subsequent winner of the race Paolini.
She also won the Locust Grove Handicap in North America.

Other highlights on day include Renashaan, in foal to Pivotal, selling for 640,000 guineas. The daughter of Darshaan has produced group one horses Medecis and Alexander Goldrun and was bought by Timmy Hyde. The mare is said to be going to Sadler's Wells next year.

Greymist, dam of Grey Lilas, was even more pricey. In foal to Rock of Gibraltar, her resulting foal will be a three parts sibling to the Prix du Moulin heroine. Anthony Penfold paid 775,000 guineas for the daughter of Kenmare.

Maiden sprint stars, Airwave and Frizzante, were both popular. Airwave selling for 550,000 and Frizzante for 500,000. The latter was snapped up by James Wigan, while Airwave will be going to Coolmore.
