Last year’s champion two year old filly in North America, Tempera, has been euthanized as a result of laminitis. The daughter of A.P. Indy was second in her two starts this year and was being prepared for a crack at the Kentucky Oaks. She won last year’s Breeders Cup Juvenile over stablemate and fancied Oaks runner Imperial Gesture and was voted Eclipse Champion Two Year Old Filly. Tempera was out of the group winning Mr Prospector mare, Colour Chart, and a half sister to high class Equerry. Godolphin were said to be devastated by the loss of the filly.

The English 1000 Guineas heroine of 1991, Shadayid, died while giving birth to a healthy Seeking The Gold filly, her ninth foal. The daughter of Shadeed’s best produce was group 3 winner Bint Shadayid. Shadayid was champion two year old filly of 1990 when winning the Cheveley Park Stakes. Trained by John Dunlop, the grey filly was also placed in the Oaks, Irish 1000 Guineas and Haydock Park Sprint. She was superbly bred, coming from the family of Diktat, Cape Cross and Park Appeal amongst others, and her half brothers Dumaani and Fath were both group winners.
