Montjeu was represented by easy UAE 2000 Guineas winner, Stagelight.
Stagelight hails from his sire's first crop and is his first classic
starter. Stagelight gave Fieldspring racing a classic double following
Rubiya's gusty win in the Bloodstock SA Guineas.
Montjeu was something of a forgotten horse when he retired
to stud. He retired to stud the same year as Dubai Millennium,
Giant's Causeway and Fusaichi Pegasus.
He had also lost his last three starts when favourite for each
run.
Despite being Sadler's Wells' most talented runner, his female
line is extremely stout and many viewed him as unlikely to come
up with fast, relatively precocious stock.
Fortunately this didn't turn out to be the case. Not surprisingly
his stock were sought after without topping any sales. His first
yearlings sold for up to 425,000 - although his two highest
priced yearlings were purchased by John Magnier.
Montjeu did so well with his first crop of two year olds that
he ended up the second on the freshman sires list behind Giant's
Causeway and ahead of Dubai Millennium and Xaar. His best son
to date is easy Racing Post Trophy winner Motivator, while another
son Walk in the Park is Grade One placed. Another son, Kings
Quay won the prestigious Washington Singer St at Newbury.
He will stand for 45,000 euros-up from his 35,000 fee of last
year.
