Last season's Horse of the Year, Yard-Arm, makes his first start in Dubai on Friday. The big son of Western Winter runs in the Al Fahdi Fort at Nad Al Sheba. The race was won by Ipi Tombe two years ago. The race, a mile run on the turf, also sees the reappearance of July winner Greys Inn.

Yard-Arm and Greys Inn are joint top weights for the Al Fahdi Fort. Previous winner of the race, D'anjou, opposes as does another former July winner, Trademark.

Thursday night racing sees the running of the UAE 2000 Guineas and the second round of the Maktoum Challenge. Grand Emporium, winner of the first round, is again opposed by Kaneko who was second to him in round one. Others in the field include evergreen State Shinto, the smart Jack Sullivan and Curule.

Mike de Kock runs Italian champion, Becrux in the Guineas - won by his Victory Moon two years ago. Others in the race include Argentinian grade one winner Urquell, Gimcrack winner Tony James and the improving Stagelight.
