DERBY WINNER RETIRED TO STUD

Wings Of Eagles, the 40-1 winner of this year’s G1 Investec Derby, has been retired. The son of Pour Moi suffered a bad fracture to his near-fore sesamoid while finishing third in the G1 Dubai Duty Irish Derby on Saturday and will not race again.

The first English classic winner for 2011 Investec Derby winner Pour Moi, Wings Of Eagles caused a massive shock when downing stablemate Cliffs Of Moher to land the Epsom based Derby last month.

Previously runner up in the G3 Chester Vase, Wings Of Eagles retires to stud having won two of seven outings and banked more than £1 000 000 in prize money.

He is the first stakes winner for his dam Ysoldina, a daughter of Kendor who finished third in the 2005 G1 Poule D’Essai Des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas).

Stud plans are yet to be announced for Wings Of Eagles.
